The author of Texas' shameful backlog on VA disability claims has his opinion about how the veterans returning from war are not being treated with the care and financial help that they should be receiving. The numbers are clear and huge of veterans who are waiting to just hear back from the Veterans Benefit Administration. They are having to wait up to hundreds of days to hear back and the numbers get worse in Texas. Waco has 13,700 veterans on backlog and Houston has 17,400 veterans on backlog. The author is critiquing the system for not being more advanced in their way of getting back and not being able to contact the veterans in a more suitable amount of time. The author uses a lot of numbers and logic to prove his claim. He also appeals to people's sensitive side by giving the story of a real woman who has come back from war but has received no help at all. The audience for this article is for the veterans to rise and join the movement to fight back the system that isn't working. The author is credible because he is the founder and also CEO of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America. I agree with the article because he also mentions that it was a promise that the government made to veterans when the war first started so regardless its something that they owe back to them. The veterans who come back with some fracture or pain should be treated after all they are going to war for America. It's ridiculous that they should have to wait with thousands of other people who are going through the same thing. The veterans are also hosting a summit concerning the issues and hope to get as much support as possible to get these veterans the help they need and deserve.
